Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Cerbio was previously named Cognitta. This policy applies to the app under either name.
Cerbio is built on a simple principle: what you do in the app is largely none of our business. Your scores, streaks, settings, and the problems and answers themselves stay on your device. Three third parties receive limited data: our subscription provider, if you buy Cerbio Pro; our analytics provider, which helps us understand broad usage patterns like how many people open the app, which screens they visit, and how features are used; and, on Android only, Meta, which helps us measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to installs and subscriptions.
The short version: There is no account to create, and Cerbio has no servers of its own. Your scores, streaks, settings, and the problems and answers themselves stay on your device — we never see them. We do use a standard analytics tool to understand how the app is used, including some in-app events such as when an app is added to your guarded list or a problem is solved (by category, not the problem itself). Analytics data is not used for advertising. If you purchase Cerbio Pro, our payments provider also processes your purchase record and a device identifier so your subscription works across reinstalls. On Android only, we use Meta's tools to measure our own ads: Meta learns when the app is installed and opened and when a trial or subscription starts, along with your device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete at any time. The iOS app does not include Meta's tools. Cerbio shows no ads, and nothing is sold.
Who we are
This policy applies to the Cerbio mobile application ("Cerbio," "the app," "we," "us") published for iOS and Android. If you have questions, contact us at hello@cerbio.app.
Information stored only on your device
The following stays on your phone and is never visible to us:
- The specific problems you are shown and the answers you give;
- Your streaks, solve rate, and detailed statistics;
- Your settings, including which problem categories are active, difficulty, and grace period;
- Your cognitive fitness score and per-category skill levels;
- The full list and identity of every app you have guarded (see the analytics section below for the limited event data that is collected when you add one).
This data is held in your device's private application storage. If you uninstall Cerbio, it is removed with the app.
We do not collect, at any time: your name, email address, or phone number; precise location data; your contacts, photos, files, or messages; the specific problems you solve or the answers you give; or the contents of any app you guard. The next section describes the limited analytics events we do collect.
Information processed when you purchase Cerbio Pro
Cerbio is free to download and use. If you choose to purchase Cerbio Pro, we use Adapty (Adapty Tech Inc.) to manage subscriptions and verify entitlements. All payments are processed by Apple or Google — we never see or handle your payment card, billing address, or App Store or Google account credentials.
To make purchases work, Adapty processes on our behalf:
- Purchase history — the products you have bought, subscription status, renewal and expiry dates, and trial eligibility;
- A device identifier — used to associate an anonymous profile with your purchases so your subscription restores correctly on reinstall or on a new device.
This data is used for one purpose: to determine whether your Cerbio Pro features should be unlocked. On iOS, it is used for nothing else. On Android, Adapty also forwards subscription events (such as a trial converting, a renewal, or a refund) to Meta so we can measure our ads, as described in Advertising measurement (Android only) below.
Adapty acts as our data processor and is bound by its own privacy commitments, available at adapty.io/privacy.
Information processed for analytics
We use Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google, to understand broad, aggregate patterns in how Cerbio is used — for example, how many people open the app, and which screens they visit. This helps us build a better app. It works automatically in the background; there is no separate opt-in step, though you can limit it through your device's own privacy settings (see below).
Firebase Analytics may process:
- App activity — app opens, session length, and which screens within the app you visit;
- Specific in-app events — a defined set of actions used to understand how the app is used, including: when an app is added to your guarded list (on Android this includes the app's name; on iOS, only a count, because Apple keeps your selection private even from us); when a problem is presented, solved, or failed (recorded by category — such as Math or Logic — and number of attempts, never the problem itself or your answer); when a subscription screen is shown, a trial is started, or a subscription screen is dismissed; and when you reach a streak milestone or a new rank;
- Device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, general language and country-level location (not precise location), and an anonymous device identifier used to distinguish one installation from another.
These events tell us how features are used in aggregate — not the content of your activity. They do not include the specific problems you are shown or the answers you give, your scores, your detailed statistics, or your settings, all of which remain on your device. We have not enabled any advertising or cross-app tracking integrations with Firebase, and Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt does not appear because we don't use Firebase in a way that requires it.
We also use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports if the app fails unexpectedly, which helps us fix bugs. A crash report may include your device model, OS version, app version, and the technical details of what the app was doing when it crashed.
Firebase acts as our data processor and is bound by Google's own privacy commitments, available at firebase.google.com/support/privacy. You can limit ad personalisation and some analytics collection at the operating-system level: on iOS, in Settings → Privacy & Security; on Android, in Settings → Google → Ads.
Advertising measurement (Android only)
We advertise Cerbio on Facebook and Instagram. To learn which ads lead people to install and subscribe, and so Meta can show our ads to people more likely to find Cerbio useful, the Android app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK, a tool provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. The iOS app does not include it, and nothing described in this section happens on iOS.
On Android, Meta may receive:
- App events — that the app was installed and opened, and that a free trial started (sent from the app);
- Subscription events — when a subscription starts, renews, or converts from a trial, a lifetime purchase, and refunds or cancellations, including the price and currency (sent by Adapty on our behalf, not from your payment details);
- Identifiers and device information — your device's advertising ID, an anonymous app identifier created by the Meta SDK, IP address, device model, operating system and app version.
Meta does not receive the problems you are shown or your answers, your scores, streaks or settings, which apps you guard, or anything the Accessibility Service detects. If you have a Facebook or Instagram account, Meta may connect these events to it under its own policy, available at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Your choices: you can delete or reset your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Settings → Google → Ads on some devices); once deleted, it is no longer available to Meta. If you have a Meta account, you can also manage this under "Your activity off Meta technologies" in your Facebook or Instagram settings. You can also email hello@cerbio.app to ask us to opt you out.
How Cerbio guards apps
On iOS, Cerbio uses Apple's Family Controls framework (also known as the Screen Time API), including the ManagedSettings and DeviceActivity frameworks. You authorise this yourself when you first set up the app, and you may revoke it at any time in iOS Settings. Apple's design deliberately prevents Cerbio from learning which specific apps you have selected — your selections are handled by the operating system through an opaque token and are never readable by us. Cerbio cannot see the contents of any app you guard, and no Screen Time data is transmitted anywhere.
On Android, Cerbio uses the Accessibility Service for a single, narrowly defined purpose: to detect when you open an app you have chosen to guard, so it can display a problem before that app loads. This is the only reliable way on Android to detect foreground app changes in real time, and it is the core function of the app.
On neither platform does Cerbio:
- Read, capture, or log any content displayed in other apps;
- Record keystrokes or any text you type;
- Interact with, control, or automate other applications;
- Transmit anything the Accessibility Service or Screen Time detects, such as when or how often you open other apps, off your device. (On Android, when you add an app to your guarded list, its name is included in an analytics event, as described above.)
These permissions run only while you have explicitly granted them, and you can revoke them at any time in your device settings. When revoked, Cerbio cannot present problems and no app detection occurs.
Data sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal information for money, Cerbio shows no ads, and we have no data brokers integrated into the app. The only third parties that receive any data are Adapty, Firebase (Google), and, on Android only, Meta, all described above. Sending app and subscription events to Meta to measure and improve our own ads may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under some laws, including California's; see Advertising measurement for how to opt out. We may disclose information if required to do so by law or valid legal process.
Data retention and deletion
Data held on your device persists until you delete it — you can clear the app's data in your device settings, or uninstall Cerbio to remove it entirely.
Purchase records held by Adapty are retained for as long as needed to support your entitlements and to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations. To request deletion of your purchase record, email hello@cerbio.app and we will action it within 30 days. Note that deleting a purchase record may prevent an active subscription from being restored.
Analytics data held by Firebase is retained according to Google's standard retention settings for Firebase Analytics, after which it is automatically deleted or anonymised.
Advertising-measurement data received by Meta is retained according to Meta's own policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing purchase data is performance of a contract with you; for analytics and advertising measurement, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app and in measuring our advertising; for all other described processing, we also rely on legitimate interest in operating and securing the app.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. To opt out of the Android advertising-measurement sharing described above, delete your advertising ID as described in that section, or email us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any right, email hello@cerbio.app. Because Cerbio has no account system, we may be unable to identify you from a request alone; where that is the case we will tell you what information we would need to proceed. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Adapty, Firebase (Google) and Meta process data on servers that may be located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, such transfers are made under appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children's privacy
Cerbio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact hello@cerbio.app and we will delete it.
Security
Data on your device remains in the app's private storage, protected by the operating system's standard application sandbox. Data transmitted to Adapty, Firebase and Meta is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Cerbio handles data, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. If a future version introduces materially different data collection, we will disclose it clearly and request your consent where required.
